Book Report Example

A book report template is a summary sheet that gives readers information about the book they are reading. It includes the contents of the book, its title, what it is, and other relevant information about that particular book. This report gives an exact idea about what a user is studying, from where he/she is studying and what sources that book provides. In other words, a book report is a short summary of the whole book which discusses the relevant details of the book. It includes the thoughts of a book report writer, especially about the book, or it is just a written essay on the book you have just read. Furthermore, it has no significant length, but there is a rule that it should be the length of four paragraphs of the story.

Importance of Book Report

A book report template is usually given to students in grades primary to 12th grade, or sometimes at a college level; it can be given to them as a thesis form. These sorts of reports can help to access the student’s writing and critical thinking skills. Students are advised to submit their book reports to their teachers at a particular time or sometimes read them aloud in their classes. A book report can be written about a work of fiction or non-fiction. The actual users of a book report are mainly the readers who can access the work of the writer if the book is worth reading or not. It is usually known as an analysis of the book based on the user’s perception. The first step in writing a good book report is selecting a book of your own choice or a particular book which might be assigned to you and start reading it. Most of the time, people use shortcuts, and don’t read the whole book; instead, just read the summary. But you might often miss important details that can make or break the book report. Until, unless, you completely read the book. You won’t be getting the whole idea of the book.

Why to Use Book Report?

A book report template has great importance, not only for book authors but also for students. First, it tells us about the author or writer who has written that book; it also gives us a brief description of the writer. For example, like where the author is born, from where he/she completed his/her education, did he/she make an achievement in his/her career, why he/she wrote that book and what message this book is trying to show to its audience. It will also provide other basic information about that book, whatever that book is about adventures, life advice, comedy, or is it only for kids, or only for adults, or is it about private matters of life, for teenagers and many others. Any good book report highlights specific questions or points of view and will defend the topic with specific examples. To create a good book report, the writer sometimes has to criticize the author and write his/her own comments about the book because the book report is completely his/her own work of creation.

Example of Book Report

Let us talk about the Harry Potter novels and see if a book report is used in the novel or not. So when we open a Harry Potter novel, we first check its book cover, which is the design page of its book. It shows us pictures of characters who are in the cast of the novel. On one side, it shows us the name of J. K Rowling, who is the writer of the novel. On the back side, it shows us other series of Harry Potter novels, or it shows us other novels written by J. K Rowling. When we open the novel, it shows us a content page where basic information like how many chapters a novel contains, names of chapters, number of pages in the novel book, at which page a new chapter of the novel starts [chapter 3 starts at page 165] is written. It also shows us on which page there is the meaning of difficult words used in the novel and also tells us about a brief summary of the novel. So, we see even famous novels like Harry Potter, which are written by famous writer J. K Rowling, also consists a report of the book which provides basic necessary information about that novel. If we remove all this, the novel will not make any sense.

Content of Book Report

Before writing the book report, you will certainly need to be fully aware of the content of the book. For that purpose, you can take crucial points as notes while you read for a long time. In the end, when you have all the notes with you, it is time to start writing the report.

1. Introduction:

Book’s title and the name of the author

Number of pages

Publishers and date of publications

2. Body:

It includes the main genre of the book, the time the story took place, and the plot of the book.

Name the three characters that fascinated you and give a brief description of each. Their role in the story, relationship with each other, significance of each character. Their personality and the way they dressed.

Describe the most important setting in the book and what were the main problems faced by the characters in the book.

How the problems were solved, and what led to the solution of the problems faced by the characters in the book.

3. Evaluation:

It includes judgments on the role of the characters and how important their roles were in the book.

4. Views and comments:

It consists of our personal reflections about the book, what we think about the book. Whether we offer our friends or brother to read the book or share our experience on reading the book.

5. Conclusion:

It includes the summary of all the points mentioned in the book.

Benefits of Book Report

Using this book report provides the readers with basic knowledge of the book. It gives information about the author of the book, his/her basic details, what message a book conveys, its contents, whatever if the book is epic, storytelling, adventurous, romantic, comedy, fiction, or based on reality, or study book like science books or any other. Moreover, if we make a book report of every book, it also causes an interest in the readers or buyers to get it at any cost. They get suspicious to know what that book is actually about. When a person checks that a biology book contains information like the human body system, how food is transported in the bodies of humans, plants, and animals. He/she definitely gets suspicious of knowing how transport happens in a species and how our body system works. All this gets easy and exciting by using book reports; it also helps us to make our book more interesting or exciting for the audience.
